2nd Place – painting by Faunagraphic – Mural Competition
3rd Place – painting by Rocket01 – Mural Competition

Larnaca Cyprus //  Mural Competition

Rocket01 and Myself was invited to take part in a competition in Cyprus, We flew over for  a week in September and began our research for creating artworks for the event which would be judged by the council and also the public via online voting.

Our trip to cyprus was great fun, we did some research into the area to get a nice feel for our work, some of the old buildings we used in our paintings are very important to the people of Larnaka….
The St lazarus chruch was one of the most prettiest places in the centre of Larnaca i thought, Alot people included this building in their mural, which you may not notice unless your from Cyprus!

The flamingos are also regular visitors to the island, The salt lake in Larnaca attracts these guys every year on their migration route… It is considered one of the most important wetlands of Cyprus and it has been declared a Special Protected Area, some pictures below show us all stood on the saltlake! Sadly there was no flamingos there when we was there, but i thought it would be nice to include it into the mural because it seems to represent visitors to the island in my eyes ! :)

On our trip we also visited the town of Leftkara… which I went to get some traditional cypriot Lace, which the ladies make there as a living, the men work with silver… Apparently Leonardo Da Vinci visited the town in 1481 and baught a cloth for a cathedral in Milan.. I purchased some lace anyway to use in my mural….. yes sounds bad because it takes them months to make a small piece and i ruin it by spraying through it…. but– i’ll use it again and its for Larnaca plus i paid for it ….. and drove into the mountains to visit the town!!
We had 2 days to paint our mural!, Rocket and me had to take some breaks because our pale british skin couldnt handle direct sunlight at peak hours so we had to vanish from the event to have a swim and shower for 2 hours to cool off! as soon as our boards hit the shade we could steam on with our paintings.. yeah… us british are never happy… we hate the cold then we cant handle the heat it was still great to paint in the sun tho, aslong as you have some factor 20 slapped on.

Big thanks to Inva our good friend from Greece who recommended us to the
Event organisers! also thanks to Sav and Gabriella for their hospitality!
Nana, Spiro and everyone else who we met from Larnaca!
