Commissioned by  COL-ART  owners of  Windsor And Newton and Liquitex  to be displayed in Germany Jan 2012 for an Art Convention

Canvas Size 5ft x 4ft  , Created using the New non-toxic waterbased Liquitex Spray paint and Liquitex Soft Body Acrylic

The Canvas doesn’t have a title, but was inspired from my last Kingfisher canvas “King of Colour”

Finally i have managed to make time to update everyone on what’s happening,

Recently I was given the opportunity to paint Newton st Manchester, for a international art project that converse was promoting. The Aim was to allow chosen artists from different cities around the world, to create murals and artwork on walls which they would not usually be-able to paint… and Converse was not wanting to interfere with the artists creativity with the artwork which would be painted on the wall.

The blue tit which i painted on newton street was unsurprisingly  the biggest mural ever painted in manchester , to my knowledge. And also birdwatchers can honestly say it would be the biggest blue tit they have ever photographed in England ! or anywhere in the world !  A large crew of people was involved in the whole process, including Peter douglass platforms who controlled the lifts as if they was giant arms, keeping well in time with the delicate blasting of spray-can fatcaps!

During the duration of the WALL2WALL project, the converse camera crew had an excellent set of top of the range filming equipment! they got this footage of the process!

Pete McKee Presents… PUB SCRAWL 2012

For one night only in January Pete McKee brings you art in pubs… a pub crawl like no other.

Pub scrawl 2012 will showcase ten of Pete’s favourite artists with ten of Sheffield’s finest watering holes.

Warp Films, Nick Deakin, Lord Bunn, Ian Anderson/tDR, Geo, Sarah Abbott, Tado, Fauagraphic, Fine and Dandy and Tom J Newell will be exhibiting in one venue each on the big night, Friday 20 January.

The event runs as a pub crawl and the venues included are: The University Arms, The Harley, The Bath Hotel, The Bowery, The Washington, Forum, The Frog and Parrot, The Great Gatsby, Bungalows and Bears and Dada’s. We will be keeping who is exhibiting in which venue a secret until the night of the event.

Each artist will create artwork in their designated venue, using it as a canvas. This could be anything from hanging a picture on the wall to a visual installation. Each venue promises to be different from the last creating a unique art experience across the city.

“I’ve set up a series of exhibitions by a selection of Sheffield artists who I admire, who inspire me, and keep me on my toes. I’ve asked ten artists to participate in a pub crawl of ten hostelries. Each artist is given a separate pub to work with, for one night only. The fantastic thing is the enthusiasm that the artists have had for the project, and the desire to push their own boundaries and try something out of the ordinary.”

How to get involved
The guided tour has now sold out, however you can still take part in Pub Scrawl and, we encourage you to create your own Pub Scrawl, going to all ten venues or just selecting your favourites. All the venues will be free to enter on the night. Opening and closing times will be posted before the event and the special edition programme designed by Pete will be available from all the bars involved on the night too.

The event is free and no tickets are required to take part.

You will also be happy to hear that the event is sponsored by Thornbridge Brewery who are launching a special ale for the event. ‘Scrawl’ will be available from venues through out the event.

Around a year ago, I was invite by Subism to take part in a publication, which proceeds from the sales will go to the charity Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres.

The book Memories will look at thoughts and experiences of individuals who have survived cancer, as well as those people who have lost loved ones.There will be ten stories inside, each looking at one person’s recollection of a particular day in the struggle against cancer. For each of these ‘memories’ a dozen leading artists, illustrators and designers will be creating their own visual response. Two further stories will go ‘open brief’ and we’ll be inviting creatives worldwide to make their own images to accompany the text. The best submissions will go into the book.

That makes for 12 touching stories, and 144 smashing pieces of artwork

I was asked to tell my cancer story in the book, as I have been in remission from Leukaemia for just over 6 years. I was struck down with the illness just after my 18 birthday, and although hospital was a different reality, to be involved with a book where i could share my thoughts and experiences i thought was a great idea. and to also see other peoples stories all collected together with great art! I submitted my story and also a illustration which both of which where published in the book.

The project was launched Summer 2011  by Designers Against Human Rights Abuse (DAHRA), Subism, OneTenEleven Media and editor Garrick Webster. Along with a number of writers and, of course, all the image contributors, they’ll be volunteering their time and skills to the project.
